PALADINO'S DICKISHNESS FURTHER ALIENATES WOMEN. MEN? NOT SO MUCH.

I told you a couple of weeks ago that a big gender gap is showing up in a number of races this year, particularly the Cuomo-Paladino race for governor of New York. In the Quinnipiac poll that showed Paladino trailing by only 6 among likely voters, there was a 23-point gender gap.

That was before Paladino's confrontation with the New York Post's Fred Dicker, and before Paladino's wife was paraded before the media to explain the callous way her husband had told her about his adulterous affair and out-of-wedlock child. Since then, Paladino's Quinnipiac numbers have dropped and Cuomo is pulling away, according to a new Quinnipiac poll:

Despite his lead among the many New York State likely voters angry with state government, Republican Carl Paladino is falling behind New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for governor, and now trails 55 - 37 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today....

Voters also say 54 - 30 percent that [Paladino] does not have the right personality to be governor....

But the change in the public's approval of Mr. Paladino is not -- to say the least -- evenly distributed by gender.

Here are the numbers for women:

9/22 (pre-Dicker fight and adultery story): Cuomo 54%, Paladino 34%
10/6 (post-Dicker fight and adultery story): Cuomo 63%, Paladino 28%

A 20-point gap among women has become a 35-point gap.

Now the men:

9/22 (pre-Dicker fight and adultery story): Cuomo 46%, Paladino 49%
10/6 (post-Dicker fight and adultery story): Cuomo 47%, Paladino 46%

That's just a 4-point shift (in a poll with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6).

As for favorable-unfavorable ratings, Paladino went from 30%-28% among women to 23%-54% -- a 33-point shift. Guys? Just a 7-point shift -- 44%-44% to 40%-33%.)

Men -- what the hell is wrong with us?
